The AUC has revised the power plant checklist application form due to the volume and complexity of recent power plant checklist applications and the evolving generation market in Alberta.
The revised power plant checklist application form and the required supporting documentation provide clear standards to help applicants determine whether a project is eligible to use the checklist process and ensures quick and efficient review of applications by the AUC.
More information can be found in Bulletin 2026-09.
The AUC has updated its privacy practices to align with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act. As part of this work, we have also introduced a new External User Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use and protect personal information.

On June 4, 2025, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) published the Code of Practice for Solar and Wind Renewable Energy Operations, effective May 31, 2025.
The Code of Practice requires existing renewable energy operations — projects approved by the AUC before January 1, 2025 — to obtain a registration from AEPA by January 1, 2027, to continue construction, operation or reclamation activities.
Wind and solar power plant approval holders should apply to AEPA as soon as possible, as AEPA’s review and registration process may take up to 120 days.
More information can be found in 2026-06-09 Announcement.
The AUC has amended Rule 029: Municipal Franchise Agreements. The administrative amendment is intended to reduce future changes to the rule by directing readers to the AUC’s website rather than referencing specific Commission decisions, which may change in the future.
The amendments to Rule 029 come into force on June 5, 2026.
